BJP's First-Ever MLA In Tamil Nadu C Velayutham Passes Away

Former MLA from Tamil Nadu C Velayutham, who was the "first-ever assembly candidate" elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) passed away on Wednesday.

New Delhi, May 8: Former MLA from Tamil Nadu C Velayutham, who was the "first-ever assembly candidate" elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) passed away on Wednesday.

BJP president JP Nadda paid homage to Velayutham who won from Tamil Nadu's Padmanabhapuram constituency in the 1996 Assembly elections.

"Deeply saddened by the passing away of former MLA and social worker C. Velayutham ji. He was the first-ever assembly candidate elected to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the BJP, representing the Padmanabhapuram constituency in the 1996 elections. His commitment and dedication to the party and to society will always be remembered. My deepest condolences to his family and supporters in this difficult time. Om Shanti!" Nadda said in a post on 'X' on Wednesday.

Offering his condolences to Velayuthan's bereaved family, BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai said, "The news of the passing away of Mr. C. Velayuthan, the first legislator of Tamil Nadu BJP and one of the pioneers of the party, is deeply saddening. He is devoted to the development of the party. He was a man of principled and worked hard. He sowed hope for the growth of BJP in Tamil Nadu." (ANI)

Odisha Records 21.07 pc Voter Turnout Till 11 AM

Bhubaneswar, May 20: Odisha recorded 21.07 percent voting in the voter turnout trend till 11 am in the second phase of polling for five Lok Sabha seats and 35 Assembly constituencies in the state, according to the data released by the Election Commission of India.

Jharsuguda witnessed the highest voting, the lowest number of votes was cast in Bolangir. According to the state election officials, the maximum voter turnout was 25.32% in Jharsuguda, while the lowest voter turnout (17.16%) was recorded in Bolangir.

Similarly, 22.06% of votes were cast in Bargarh, 21.75% in Boudh, 21.98% in Ganjam, 19.35% in Kandhamal.

"Come back next year, Impact player is on..." Virat jokingly asks Gayle to re-join RCB next season

Bengaluru, May 20: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) camp, including the star batter Virat Kohli, had a heartwarming reunion with the 'Universe Boss' and franchise's icon Chris Gayle following their win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday.

After a horrid first half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 which saw them lose seven out of first eight games, RCB completed a fairytale turnaround with six successive wins and entered the playoffs by beating CSK on Saturday in front of their home fans in Bengaluru.

The official Instagram handle of RCB on Monday posted a video of Gayle interacting with RCB players, including Virat. During their conversation, Virat joked about Gayle returning to the team as an 'Impact Player' next year.

"Come back next year, Impact player is on. You do not have to field no more. It is designed for you," said Virat.

Also, Gayle, who holds the record for maximum sixes in a single IPL season with 59 sixes for RCB in 2012, inquired Virat about how many sixes he smashed this season. To this, Virat proudly replied, "37".

Later, Virat gifted Gayle his number 18 signed jersey, with a special message for his former teammate.

Mumbai, May 20: Actress Yami Gautam Dhar and her husband-director Aditya Dhar on Monday announced the arrival of their baby son, Vedavid, who was born on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritya.

Taking to Instagram, Yami and Aditya shared a mesmerising photo of Lord Krishna, holding a baby boy in his hands. The photo has a message written on it, which reads: "We are thrilled to announce the arrival of our beloved son, Vedavid, who graced us with his birth on the auspicious day of Akshay Tritya. Please shower him with all your kind blessings and love.

Warm Regards, Yami and Aditya." In the caption, the duo expressed gratitude to the doctors for their tireless efforts. "We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the exceptionally dedicated and wonderful medical professionals at Surya Hospital, especially Dr Bhupender Awasthi and Dr Ranjana Dhanu, whose expertise and tireless efforts made this joyous occasion possible," the post read.

The caption added: "As we embark on this beautiful journey of parenthood, we eagerly anticipate the bright future that awaits our son. With every milestone he achieves, we are filled with the hope and belief that he will grow to become a beacon of pride for our entire family as well as our beloved nation."

Yami and Aditya tied the nuptial knot in June 2021. On the work front, Yami has 'Dhoom Dhaam' in the pipeline. The actress was last seen in her husband's production movie 'Article 370'. She has also earlier starred in Adtiya's directorial 'Uri: The Surgical Strike'.
