The theme for World AIDS day this year is - Let communities lead.
World AIDS day is dedicated to raise awareness, educate and improve the understanding of HIV as a global public health problem.
According to the World Health Organisation 39 million people around the world were living with HIV. It said, more than six lakh 30 thousand people died of HIV related illnesses worldwide last year.

A social stigma resonates within the society that mere touch of those affected with the disease would lead to transmission of the virus. However, the virus is transmissible only through the exchange of bodily fluids such as blood, breast milk, semen or vaginal secretions from patients.
