The victim identified as Debasish Sahoo of Bharatpur Police Station area had put up an advertisement on the online market place ‘Krishify’ to sell his cow at a cost of Rs 20,000 on March 12, 2021.
On the very day of posting the advertisement he got a call from the number- 8342017297, in which the caller expressed his interest to by the cow. Impersonating as an employee of India Army he told the victim to receive money through a QR Code sent by him.
To give a reason for QR Code mode of payment, the fraudster claimed that being an Indian Army staff he is not allowed to use online payment apps like PhonePe and Paytm.
After Debasish believed in the words of the fraudster and scanned the QR Code sent by him, Rs 20,000 was deducted back to back for five times from his bank account.
After losing Rs 1 lakh to the caller, Debasish realized that he had been cheated and lodged a complaint at Bharatpur Police Station.
