Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday expressed satisfaction over the public response to the ruling BJP's Jan Sankalp Yatra aimed at drumming up popular support in the run-up to assembly elections slated for early next year.

"The BJP Jan Sankalp Yatra is getting tremendous response across the state and it will be intensified in the current month to win the confidence of the people," Bommai said.
Talking to reporters, the chief minister said the Sankalp Yatra has been held successfully in Hyderabad-Karnataka, Central Karnataka and Mumbai-Karnataka regions. It will be intensified in the current month.
"Along with this, the welfare schemes of both the state and the central governments will be taken to the people to win their confidence," he elaborated.
Bommai was sworn in as chief minister on July 28, 2021 after BJP strongman in the state B.S. Yediyurappa had stepped down at the insistence of the party high command.
Bommai has been constantly travelling across the state to boost the party's prospects at the hustings.
Bommai and Yediyurappa had set out on the Jan Sankalp yatra from Raichur on October 11. The roadshow covering around 50 constituencies will end on December 25.

Amravati, Sept. 25: Angry at being separated from his girlfriend, a youth in Amravati allegedly killed her mother and brother by setting them ablaze, before committing suicide in Vandli village, the police said here on Monday.
The 25-year old accused, identified as one Ashish Thakre, was reportedly upset after being separated from his girlfriend a few months ago following a fight.
They were in a live-in relationship for over three years, but after the brawl she left him and returned to her mother's home.
When Thakre repeatedly visited her home and tried to convince and bring her back, her mother and brother prevented her from returning with him.

In a fit of rage, Thakre planned a revenge on the girl's mother Lata S. Bhonde (45) and the brother Pranay (20) by setting their home ablaze at around 1 a.m. on Sunday.
Even as other villagers rushed to help, Thakre also set himself ablaze and succumbed to severe burns later.
Amravati Police have registered a case of murder and suicide and are investigating the matter. (IANS)

Bhubaneswar, Sep 25: Opposition Chief Whip Mohan Majhi on Monday ridiculed the Chief Minister's clarification that he had sent the CMO to people to listen to their grievances.
Majhi wanted that the Chief Minister clarify who beteen the elected representaive and the CMO is of the higher status. "People of Odisha would have felt contended if the Chief Minister had sent Ministers, MPs and MLAs to them to liten to their greivances. They would have been happy thinking that the leaders whom they had elected visited them," said Majhi.
The BJP leader wanted to know why the Chief Minister is not going to the people himself.
"Did he fear people? Did he lost faith on Cabinet Ministers?," asked Majhi.
He too wanted to know if a person can be the CMO (Chief Minister's Office). How can a private secretary be the CMO, he asked further.
"Why the private secretary will go to the peole alone while the CMO has several other officers," he asked again.
Alleging that there have been huge corruption occurred in 5T school, he wanted to if the corruption has not occurred in the knowlege of the CMO official.
"Whopping Rs 500 crore has been spent towards chopper use by the CMO. The CMO has not only gone on personal work but also attended marriage feasts using chopper at Government cost," he said.
He said the private secretary of the Chief Minister had gone by the Government chopper to attend a feast arranged by Pallahada in Angul district on May 14, 2023. Similarly, the government chopper has been used for family work of a BJD MLA on June 28, 2023. "The Chief Minister should make clarifications in these regards," demanded Majhi.

Mumbai, Sep 25: The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Monday slapped fines on State Bank of India, Indian Bank, Punjab & Sind Bank, and Fedbank Financial Services for violating norms.
A penalty of Rs 1.3 crore was imposed on State Bank of India (SBI), Rs 1.62 crore on Indian Bank, Rs 1 crore on Punjab & Sind Bank, and Rs 8.80 lakh on Fedbank Financial Services, the RBI said in separate press statements.
The fine was imposed on SBI and Indian Bank as they sanctioned a term loan to a corporation in lieu of or to substitute budgetary resources envisaged for certain projects, without undertaking due diligence on the viability and bankability of the projects to ensure that revenue streams from the projects were sufficient to take care of the debt servicing obligations, and the repayment/ servicing of which was made out of budgetary resources, the RBI said.
In addition, the SBI failed to adhere to the intra-group exposure limit, as it did not consider the intra-day limit sanctioned to its group entity for the purpose of computing intra-group exposure limit.
Indian Bank was fined as it allowed operations and did not close several accounts opened using OTP-based e-KYC in non-face-to-face mode, even after the expiry of one year without conducting customer due diligence procedure, and opened several savings accounts in the names of customers not eligible to maintain savings deposit account, the RBI statement said.

Similarly, Punjab & Sind Bank failed to credit the eligible amount to a Depositor Education and Awareness Fund within the period prescribed under Section 26A of the BR Act, due to which the monetary penalty was imposed.
Fedbank Financial Services has been fined as it delayed the reporting of a fraud to the RBI.
