The deceased has been identified as Anupama Mohapatra (45), a resident of the same village.
Anupama’s death came to light early in the morning today after some local residents who had been to the field to attend nature’s call came across the body. They immediately called up her family members.
“Annapurna was living alone after her usband's death in a half-constructed house near the field, where her body was found. Her only son is living with his family in Bangalore. I suspect she has been raped and murdered,” said Bharat Prasad Jena, the deceased’s father.
From the circumstantial evidences found on the spot it seems that, Annapurna locked the gate of her house and went out to attend nature’s call late in the night post which the miscreants targeted her. While a bucket and a mug was found some metres away from her body, her head was also found buried in the mud.
Police have seized the body for autopsy and started investigation.
