The victim has been identified as Asharam Gond, a resident of Mahubhata village under Raighar police station limits in the district.
As per reports, Asharam sells gold and silver ornaments in the weekly market at Raighar, Beheda, Chatori and Gona villages in the area.
The incident occurred at around 5.30 PM on Thursday when the jeweller was returning home from Gona weekly market in a two-wheeler.
Four miscreants, wearing masks, intercepted Asharam on the road between Bharasundi and Chatabeda village under Raighar police limits and attacked him with a knife.
The criminals then snatched the box containing 30 gram of gold and 15 kg of silver ornaments from Asharam and fled from the scene.
The jeweller sustained minor injuries on his stomach in the attack.
The cost of looted jewellery will be approximately Rs 11 lakh, Asharam said.
Later in the evening, Asharam lodged a complaint with the Raighar police station in this connection.
“A case has been registered at Raighar police station in this connection. Efforts are on to nab the accused. Further investigation is underway,” a police official said.
