It was around 10:15 PM on Thursday night. This busy square was still crowded. A police outpost exists nearby. Some women serving a tailoring unit at Mancheswar Industrial Estate were returning back to their home. They were on their way via Pala Mandap square to their hostel at Rasulgarh village.
At this time this capital city is totally awake. So, any girl has confidence to return back home safely at this time of the night. But this faith was shattered last night.
Suddenly one of these girls returning from the sewing unit was hit from the backside by a bike. It wasn’t any accident. The bike rider youth had hit her intentionally. It irked the young woman.
She questioned the intention of the bike rider. What she faced in return at this busy square is shameful and astonishing. The lecherous bike rider dared to misbehave with the young woman and even tried to molest her. He tried to snatch away the dupatta of the girl. She tried hard to escape from the clutches of the lecherous youth. And everything happened before gaping eyes of many. But no one came to her rescue.
Some of the females ran away from the spot. But the victim was unable to escape from the spot. After sometime she managed to release herself from the clutches of the youth. She ran fast to take shelter in the temple near the Pala Mandap. But the assaulter did not leave her.
For around 15 minutes, the victim faced misbehaviour of the youth inside the temple. The young woman suffered injuries at his hands.
Luckily someone phoned up the police. Hearing the siren of the arriving police vehicle, the assaulter escaped from the spot.
It is alleged that the victim did not receive proper justice from the police. According to sources, she was compelled by police personnel to refrain from filing any FIR. From initial investigation, police had ascertained that the assailant was an inhabitant of Rasulgarh village. He as well as some other youths was regularly passing lewd comments and misbehaving with the women of the area. But everyone including local police has preferred to remain mum towards their misdeeds.
As the victim of Rasulgarh could save herself from any major mishap, police preferred to ignore the case. But police should remember that such neglected events provide confidence to miscreants that lead to grave incidents like that of Mahalinga, Kunduli, Pipli, Dharmashala etc.
