Cuttack, Jun 9: There will be no rush you see today in streets of Cuttack after 24 hours if a plan made by the Cuttack Development Authority is implemented in letter and spirit.

“The CDA has proposed a decongestion plan under which 10 crowded roads will be identified and made congestion-free on a pilot basis. The roads will be widened with median in the middle and parking systems available on both the sides,” said district Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani.

A consultant has been engaged for the purpose. A project will be prepared in six months and the proposed project will be completed in next 18 months’ time, said Swati Binay Das, the project consultant.

He said, if required, flyovers will also be constructed at different places to decongest roads.

Sources said many families will be displaced in view of narrow space available at different places. The Government would provide adequate compensation to affected families under the plan.

Suvendu Adhikari Files RTI Seeking Details Of Recruitment In State Health Services Since 2011

Kolkata, Dec 1: The leader of opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, said on Friday that he has filed an application under Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking details of all recruitment made in the state health services since 2011, the year Trinamool Congress came to power by ending Left Front's 34-year rule.

Adhikari said he suspects massive irregularities in the recruitment in state health services, just like the alleged school jobs and municipal recruitment scams, which are being probed by central agencies.

“I have been informed by my reliable sources from within the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board that there have been serious irregularities in the recruitment process since 2011. Transfers are effected according to the whims and fancies of a few influential individuals. In order to get to the bottom of this, I have filed an application under the RTI Act,” Adhikari said.

In the application to the state public information officer of the Health & Family Welfare Department, a copy of which is available with IANS, Adhikari has sought to know the number of people recruited by the department since 2011.

He has also sought the numbers and names in a yearly order along with the categories of positions and designations for which the recruitment were made.

“Kindly provide the name of the hospitals or any other place of work (if applicable) along with the location details where they were initially posted,” the application read.

Adhikari also sought details of the hospitals and other places of work where they are posted currently along with the dates of their transfers.

Bhubaneswar, Dec 1: Bishweswar Nayak, one of the four rescued Odia labouers of Uttarkashi tunnel collapse, said he went to Uttarkashi as he didn't avail a job in the State. He narrated the plights of all 41 trapped labourers in the collapsed tunnel

"There are no jobs in Odisha. We have to go to other States to earn a livelihood. Our State government has always made false promises to jobs. Our government has no concern for poor people like us," Nayak said.

Nayak along with three other rescued Odia labourers reached Bhubaneswar today. The fifth Odia will return home later.

"A few accidents have occurred during my 20 years of work. I didn't get scared of such accidents. But the tunnel collapse was a different one which I will remember forever. When I returned from work, I saw that the road was completely blocked for 70 meters," said Nayak.

He said they (41 lahourers) spent 12 hours in sheer darkness. However, they got their first meal through a 4-inch pipe. They were given puffed rice, cashew nuts, and raisins as their first meal.

"We also got piped water. All 41 of us lived together. We all lived as brothers. We used to walk together in the tunnel," he said.

The Prime Minister thanked Guterres for his support during India's G20 presidency.

He highlighted India's initiatives and progress in achieving climate goals.

Both leaders exchanged views on priorities and concerns of the Global South related to climate action, climate finance, technology and reforms of the multilateral governance and financial institutions, including the UN.

The UN Secretary-General appreciated India's efforts in the areas of sustainable development, climate action, MDB reforms, and disaster management under G20 Presidency. He welcomed PM Modi's Green Credit Initiative.
