BJP team meets Sambalpur RDC, gives 72-hr ultimatum to resolve farmer issues

Sambalpur, Jan 22: A team of BJP leaders met the Northern Division RDC at Sambalpur and held discussion regarding the issue of paddy procurement. The team gave an ultimatum of 72 hours to the Government to resolve the issue.

“We have given 72 hours’ time to the Government to set right the Mandi system and procure paddy from intending farmers at MSPs at all Mandis,” said BJP MP Suresh Pujari.

He said the team will hold discussion with other leaders in the Town police station premises and decide on the future course of action. He said the agitation is still continuing.

It may be noted BJP leaders like State president Samir Mohanty, Leader of Opposition in Odisha Legislative Assembly Pradipta Naik, MLA Jayanarayan Mishra and MP Suresh Pujari had sat on a dharna yesterday throughout the night, protesting “faulty” token system for paddy procurement being adopted by the State Government.

“Tokens have been issued to people who haven’t cultivated paddy. The State Government have no concern for farmers and are protecting the interest of millers. The token system should be scrapped forthwith,” demanded party leaders.

Like yesterday, there was also a scuffle between agitating BJP workers and police as the former tried to break the gate and enter the premises of the Sambalpur town police station.

Exit Polls Predict Advantage BJP In Rajasthan, Congress Too In Sweepstakes To Form Govt

New Delhi, Nov 30: The exit polls on Thursday reinforced the perception of a hard contest in Rajasthan, with differences in their prediction of the winner in the crucial Hindi heartland state that has a nearly three-decade tradition of not repeating an incumbent government.

While three exit polls predicted the BJP to be the clear winner, two others showed Congress was ahead in the sweepstakes to form the next government in the state

The exit poll predictions showed that "others" including smaller parties and independents could play a crucial role in the formation of the government when the results are announced on December 3. Rajasthan went to the polls on 199 of 200 assembly seats on November 25.

The Congress government in the state led by Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot unleashed a series of populist schemes closer to the assembly election to ward off the challenge from the BJP.

According to India Today-Axis My India poll, Congress is poised to get 86-106 seats in Rajasthan with 42 per cent votes and BJP 80-100 seats with 41 per cent vote support. Others are poised to seven per cent votes and 9-18 seats.

India TV-CNX poll predicted 94-104 seats for Congress with 43 per cent votes and 80-90 seats for BJP with 42 per cent vote share. It said 'others' are expected to get 15 per cent votes and 14-18 seats.

Times Now-ETG poll gave 56-72 seats to Congress with 38.98 per cent vote share, 108-128 to BJP with 41.88 per cent votes and others expected to get 13-21 seats with a sizeable 19.14 per cent vote share.

The Jan Ki Baat poll gave 100-122 seats to BJP with vote share of 44 per cent, 62-85 seats to Congress with a vote share of 41 per cent and predicted that others will get 15 per cent votes and 14-15 seats.

The P-Marq poll said BJP will win 105-125 seats in Rajasthan with 42.2 per cent vote share and Congress 69-81 seats with 39.7 per cent votes. It said others are poised to get 5-15 seats with 18.1 per cent vote, it said.

Counting in four other states that went to the polls this month will also take place on December 3. The polls, held months before the Lok Sabha polls, are crucial for BJP and Congress for various reasons. (ANI)

PM Modi To Take Forward G20 Steps On Climate Action At COP28 In Dubai

New Delhi, Nov 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said that he was looking forward to the COP28 summit in Dubai, to move ahead with the concrete steps on climate action that formed part of the New Delhi declaration of the G20.

"During our G20 Presidency, climate was high on our priority. The New Delhi Leaders' Declaration includes numerous concrete steps on climate action and sustainable development. I look forward to the COP28 taking forward the consensus on these issues," the Prime Minister said ahead of his visit to Dubai for the World Climate Action Summit which begins on December 1.

PM Modi said that COP28 will also provide an opportunity to review progress made under the Paris Agreement, and chart the future course on climate action.

He also pointed out that at the Voice of Global South Summit convened by India, the Global South spoke for the need for climate action based on the principles of equity, climate justice, and common but differentiated responsibilities, as well as a greater focus on adaptation.

PM Modi said it was important that the efforts of the developing world be supported with adequate climate financing and technology transfer.

Besides, they must get access to equitable carbon and development space to achieve sustainable development, he added.

"India has walked the talk when it comes to climate action. Our achievements in different sectors like renewable energy, energy efficiency, afforestation, energy conservation, Mission LiFE are testament to the commitment of our people towards mother Earth," he added. (IANS)

Telangana Assembly Polls: 63.94% Voter Turnout Recorded Till 5 PM

Hyderabad, Nov 30: Telangana recorded a voter turnout of 63.94 per cent till 5 pm in the assembly polls for 119 seats, according to the Election Commission of India.

According to the Election commission, Medak recorded a voter turnout of 80.28 per cent, Mahabubabad at 77.50 per cent, Adilabad at 73.58 per cent, Hanumankonda at 62.46 per cent and Hyderabad at 31.17 per cent till 5 pm.

Jangaon recorded 80.23 percent of voter turnout, while Kamareddy recorded 71 per cent.
The voter turnout in Khammam was recorded 73.77 per cent, Nalgonda recorded 75.72 per cent, Nizamabad at 68.30 per cent,

Sangareddy recorded 73.83 per cent and Rangareddy recorded 53.03 per cent.
Till 3 pm Telangana recorded a voter turnout of 51.89 per cent.

This time, there are as many as 2,290 contestants in the fray which includes Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, his Minister-son K.T. Rama Rao, State Congress President A Revanth Reddy and BJP Lok Sabha members Bandi Sanjay Kumar and D Arvind.

In 2018, BRS (then Telangana Rashtra Samithi) won 88 of the 119 seats and had 47.4 per cent of the vote share. The Congress came a distant second with just 19 seats.

Several big leaders including Chief Minister KCR, state minister KT Rama Rao, YSR Telangana Party president YS Sharmila, BJP's Arvind Dharmapuri and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy exercised their franchise and urged voters to cast a vote.
The counting of the votes will take place on December 3. (ANI)
