Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das informed this in the State Assembly in a written reply to a question of BJD MLA Soumyaranjan Patnaik.
According to the data furnished by the Minister, Odisha is below four States in the term of doctor and population ratio. While Andhra Pradesh has one doctor per 520 people, the ratio in Gujarat is 1:1022, followed by West Bengal 1:1350 and Assam 1:1449.
However, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattishgarh, Jharkhand and Telangarna have one doctor per 2,923, 2,965, 3,300, 6,543 and 7,666 people respectively.
The Minister further informed that Odisha has 7,024 doctors in different categories against 8,719 registered posts.
