Replying to a written query raised by BJP MLA Mukesh Mahaling, the Minister said, “The fine is collected as per the MV Act 1988 (amended Motor Vehicle Act, 2019). In the financial year 2019-202 and 2022-2023, Rs234.55 crore has been collected from 5, 60,418 vehicles in the State. Rs 318.95 Cr fine amount from 7,95,173 vehicles is yet to be collected.”
“There is no provision of gifting a helmet to a violator from the penalty fund,” Sahu said.

Bhubaneswar, March 16: The Odisha government has collected a fine of Rs 234.55 crore from traffic rule violators in the past three years, according to the amended Motor Vehicle Act, 2019. This was informed by State Commerce and Transport Minister Tukuni Sahu in the Assembly today.
