On the eve of the celebration yesterday, soldiers lit candles at Kargil War Memorial in Drass remembering those who who laid down their lives putting the country first in the epic battle of Tololing and Tiger Hill to seize back key posts form Pakistan military in Ladakh.
A total 559 lamps were lit on the 22nd Kargil Vijay Diwas yesterday in the presence of top military officers, family members of the army personnel.
While addressing on ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme on Sunday, PM Narendra Modi also hailed India armed forces for Kargil victory and said the day will be celebrated as ‘Amrut Mahotsav’.
Taking to his Twitter handle today Modi wrote: “We remember their sacrifices. We remember their valour. Today, on Kargil Vijay Diwas we pay homage to all those who lost their lives in Kargil protecting our nation. Their bravery motivates us every single day.” PM also shared an excerpt from last year’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on the occasion.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also paid homage to the soldiers of the Kargil War for their supreme sacrifice and unparalleled love for the motherland on Twitter.
“Tributes the bravehearts who fought with exemplary valour in the #KargilWar to protect the sovereignty of our great nation. On this #KargilVijayDiwas, join the nation to offer homage to the martyrs for their supreme sacrifice & unparalleled love for the motherland,” posted Naveen on his Twitter handle.s
