New Delhi, Dec 28: India registered 6,358 fresh Covid cases in a span of 24 hours, the Union ministry of Health and Family welfare said on Tuesday.
As many as 293 deaths were also recorded pushing the death toll to 4,80,290.
Meanwhile, the Omicron infection tally has risen to 653 across the nation. However, of the total cases, 186 have been discharged from hospitals. So far, 21 states have reported Omicron infections, as per the ministry.
The recovery of 6,450 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally to 3,42,43,945. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 98.40 per cent, the highest since March 2020.
India's active caseload is presently at 75,456. Active cases constitute 0.22 per cent of the country's total positive cases, the lowest since March 2020.
Also in the same period, a total of 10,35,495 tests were conducted across the country taking the cumulative tests to over 67.41 crore.
Meanwhile, the weekly positivity rate at 0.64 per cent has remained less than 1 per cent for the last 44 days now.
The daily positivity rate stands at 0.61 per cent, which has also remained below 2 per cent for last 85 days and less than 3 per cent for 120 consecutive days now.
With the administration of 72,87,547 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India's Covid inoculation coverage has reached 142.47 crore as of Tuesday morning.
More than 16.80 crore balance and unutilised Covid vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered, the ministry said.

Union Minister for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan said this while attending Shri Jagannath Pancharatra (Five nights), Chabishi Besh (24 attires), Chapanbhog (56 dishes) exhibition festival at Gadian Sriramchandrapur in Dhenkanal district on Sunday.
Pradhan said that all Sanatanis are unique devotees of the Lord. Everyone's emotions and expressions are different. Mahaprabhu is the lord of the universe. The adoration of the Mahaprabhu, his elegant attire and the unique architecture of the temple, Darshan of the deities atop Raths by people belonging to all sections, a unique feature of the Shri Jagannath culture. Jagannath temple is said to be the largest kitchen in the world. Everyone sitting together and eating Mahaprasad also indicates the great importance of Sri Jagannath culture.
The Union Minister said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a great devotee of Mahaprabhu Shri Jagannath. He came to Puri to pay obeisance to the deities when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. After being Prime Minister, he also visited the Shreemandir and had Darshan of the Trinity. For the first time during his Prime Ministership, the Central government provided financial support for the Nabakalebar. The Modi government is very keen for the development of the temple.
Pradhan expressed his gratitude to the organizing committee for taking the responsibility of spreading the Shri Jagannath culture.

Bhopal, Dec 3: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday secured a landslide victory from Budhni Assembly constituency in Sehore district.
Chouhan defeated Congress candidate and TV actor Vikram (Sharma) Mastal by 1.04 lakh votes.
Chouhan garnered 1,64,951 votes (70.7 per cent vote share) while Mastal trailed far behind with a mere 59,977 votes — creating a victory margin of 1,04,974 votes.
Beside Budhni, the BJP has also won other three seats – Sehore, Astha, and Pichhore in the home district of Chouhan.
BJP candidates Sudesh Rai won Sehore seat by 37,851 votes, Gopal Singh won Astha seat by 7,903 votes, and Karan Singh Verma won Ichhawar seat by 16,346 votes.
On the BJP’s clean sweep in Madhya Pradesh along with neighboring Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, Chouhan said gave credit to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for the results.
However, Chouhan also mentioned that he never felt the atmosphere of anti-incumbency against his government during the election campaign.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in the hearts of the people of Madhya Pradesh. The work done by the double-engine government, and MP government’s Ladli scheme, has helped uplift people and improve their lives. All of us have worked hard together,” he added.
Madhya Pradesh Congress P:resident Kamal Nath, who led the party’s campaign, secured victory from his bastion Chhindwara by 36,594 votes, defeating BJP's Vivek Bunty Sahu.
The veteran Congress leader congratulated the BJP on its victory.

"We accept the decision of Madhya Pradesh voters in this contest of democracy. We, being the opposition party, will stick to our duty. I congratulate the BJP and hope that they will live up to the people’s support they got," he said at a press conference.
