New Delhi, Sep 25: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Sunday observed its 67th Foundation Day.
While presiding over the celebration, Union Minister of State for Health, Bharati Pawar expressed happiness over AIIMS ranking among top 10 educational institutions in the research category.
She also said it is the only institution with patient care service component in addition to research.
Pawar appreciated that it is a matter of immense pride that for the fifth consecutive year, AIIMS, has been ranked as number one among medical institutions as per National Institute Ranking Framework (NIRF) issued by the Ministry of Education, and urged the authorities to maintain the ranking in coming years too.
"India's health care system has shown great efficiency not only in providing diagnostic and management facilities but also in minimising mortality and maximising recovery," said MoS Health Pawar.
Pawar added: "Being successful is more of a journey, not a destination. We have to work hard to not only maintain high standards but also set newer milestones and put efforts to achieve the same."
Speaking on the occasion, Pawar said: "When we talk about holistic health and inclusiveness of accessibility, we are including three factors in it. Firstly, expansion of infrastructure and human resources related to modern medical science. Secondly, promotion of research in traditional Indian system of medicine and its active engagement in the healthcare system and thirdly providing better and affordable healthcare facilities to every person and every part of the country through modern and futuristic technology."
"Under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the efforts of the Central government are to work holistically with emphasis on preventive care, while giving priority to tertiary healthcare. The efforts are to reduce the cost of treating for the poor and at the same time, on increasing the number of doctors rapidly," she added.
M. Srinivas, Director, AIIMS, New Delhi and faculty members were present on the occasion.

Kolkata, Dec 1: The leader of opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, said on Friday that he has filed an application under Right to Information (RTI) Act seeking details of all recruitment made in the state health services since 2011, the year Trinamool Congress came to power by ending Left Front's 34-year rule.
Adhikari said he suspects massive irregularities in the recruitment in state health services, just like the alleged school jobs and municipal recruitment scams, which are being probed by central agencies.
“I have been informed by my reliable sources from within the West Bengal Health Recruitment Board that there have been serious irregularities in the recruitment process since 2011. Transfers are effected according to the whims and fancies of a few influential individuals. In order to get to the bottom of this, I have filed an application under the RTI Act,” Adhikari said.
In the application to the state public information officer of the Health & Family Welfare Department, a copy of which is available with IANS, Adhikari has sought to know the number of people recruited by the department since 2011.
He has also sought the numbers and names in a yearly order along with the categories of positions and designations for which the recruitment were made.
“Kindly provide the name of the hospitals or any other place of work (if applicable) along with the location details where they were initially posted,” the application read.
Adhikari also sought details of the hospitals and other places of work where they are posted currently along with the dates of their transfers.

Bhubaneswar, Dec 1: Bishweswar Nayak, one of the four rescued Odia labouers of Uttarkashi tunnel collapse, said he went to Uttarkashi as he didn't avail a job in the State. He narrated the plights of all 41 trapped labourers in the collapsed tunnel
"There are no jobs in Odisha. We have to go to other States to earn a livelihood. Our State government has always made false promises to jobs. Our government has no concern for poor people like us," Nayak said.
Nayak along with three other rescued Odia labourers reached Bhubaneswar today. The fifth Odia will return home later.
"A few accidents have occurred during my 20 years of work. I didn't get scared of such accidents. But the tunnel collapse was a different one which I will remember forever. When I returned from work, I saw that the road was completely blocked for 70 meters," said Nayak.
He said they (41 lahourers) spent 12 hours in sheer darkness. However, they got their first meal through a 4-inch pipe. They were given puffed rice, cashew nuts, and raisins as their first meal.
"We also got piped water. All 41 of us lived together. We all lived as brothers. We used to walk together in the tunnel," he said.
