On January 29, Minister Das was shot at from a close range by Gandhi Chowk police outpost’s ASI Gopal Das at a public event at Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district. He succumbed to his bullet wounds while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar in the same evening.
Yesterday, the State government shunted Jharsugauda SP Rahul Jain, Brajarajnagar Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gupteswar Bhoi, Brajarajnagar Police Station’s IIC Pradyumna Kumar Swain and Gandhi Chowk police outpost’s in-charge SI Sashi Bhusan Podha.
Notably, IIC Swain had sustained bullet injury on his left hand while trying to overpower and disarm accused ASI Gopal Das after the latter opened fire at the Minister.
Accused ASI Gopal, who was posted at Gandhi Chowk outpost in Brajarajnagar, has already been dismissed following his arrest on Monday.
The transfers came amid the scathing attacks by opposition BJP and Congress on the State government over the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in the State, where a Cabinet Minister was killed by a cop.
