The deceased has been identified as Shyamghan Jani, a resident of Kalingapadar.
As per reports, Jani on Sunday had gone to nearby Ambajhara forest under Tarasingh range to collect firewood, but he didn’t return home till late evening.
The family members started searching for him with the help of locals and found his body in Ambajhara forest this morning.
On being informed, forest officials and police reached the spot and retrieved the body. Later, the body was sent to a hospital for autopsy.
They also spotted the footprint marks of elephants on the surface near the body.
“The exact cause of death will be ascertained after the post mortem report. It is however suspected that the man was trampled to death by elephants,” said an official.
Meanwhile, the locals demanded adequate compensation for the victim's family.
