A man in Rayagada district headquarters town on Monday was reportedly forced to carry the body of his nine-year-old son on his shoulder as he was unable to get a vehicle to take the body to his residence.
As per reports, one Suradhar Benia of Harijan Sahi here carried the body of his son and walked for one and a half km to reach his house from the district headquarters hospital (DHH) this morning.
Earlier this morning, Suradhar rushed his son, Akash, to the DHH here after the boy had fallen sick. After preliminary treatment, the doctors declared the boy ‘dead’.
The family members reportedly did not get any Mahaprayan service to take the body of the boy home. Without any alternative, Suradhar carried the body of his son on his shoulder and started walking towards their home.
This is not an isolated case of the unavailability of Mahaprayan service in the State. Earlier, people were seen taking the bodies of their kin in two-wheelers and trolleys in several districts.
