The dawn-to-dusk shutdown assumes significance as Padampur is going to a bypoll on December 5. “We are unhappy over the ‘lackadaisical’ attitude of the State Government in providing basic facilities to us,” said agitating villagers.
While hundreds of vehicles have stranded at different places on the road, shops, schools and Government offices have remained closed due to the shutdown. Villagers have sat on the main road.
The demands include up-gradation of Jharbandh PHC to CHC, establishment of a JMFC court and a Plus II college, construction of new buildings for primary and upper primary schools, provision of drinking water facility, new grid at Jharbandh and renovation of the veterinary unit.
People belonging to various social organisations have supported the bandh.
