The police also arrested a person belonging to Punjab in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Jeypore Sadar police station intercepted a ginger-laden truck on Jeypore-Koraput ghat road last night. The vehicle was heading to Punjab from Kunduli in Koraput district.
While frisking the truck, police recovered several packets of ganja, weighing 1001 kg, packed in polythene bags and concealed in ginger packets from the vehicle.
Subsequently, they seized the contraband item and the vehicle. They also seized a mobile phone from the possession of the accused person.
The approximate cost of the seized contraband would be around Rs 1 crore, police said.
The accused have been booked under the NDPS Act and investigation is underway to find out the locals involved in the smuggling of the contraband, police added.
