The public campaign will end in the evening at 6 pm. The by-election will be held on May 31.
The Chief Election Officer (CEO) today informed that outsiders have been asked to leave the constituency before 6 pm today. “ Hotels and lodges will be checked in the evening,” the CEO said.
He further informed that special arrangements have made due to heatwave conditions during polling. “As many as 2,14,787will exercise their franchise in the by-election. Around 1,228 polling officers will be engaged for the smooth conduct of polling. Thousand police personnel and three teams of central force will be deployed for law and order situations,” CEO Sushil Kumar Lohani informed.
Voting will be conducted at 279 booths. Sixty polling stations have been identified as sensitive booths. Micro observer and central force will be deployed in these booths, the CEO informed.
“All the liquor shops will remain closed for 48 hours before the commencement of voting,” he added.
The by-poll has been necessitated following the untimely demise of sitting MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty (BJD) on December 30, last year.
