The three adult accused have been identified as Sujit Kumar Naik, Rajendra Sahu and Dharanidhar Behera, informed Brahmananda Gagarin Mohanty, Additional SP of Kendrapara.
Briefing the media, Mohanty said, a driver of a sand-laden truck, identified as Seikh Munna of Pattamundai, had lodged a complaint that a gang of six looters intercepted the truck near Ganja ghat on Cuttack-Chandbali highway on February 17 and looted Rs 47,000 and a mobile phone from him.
On the basis of the complaint lodged by the truck driver, Rajkanika Police conducted raids in different locations in the district and nabbed five members of the gang including two minors, said the Additional SP of Kendrapara.
Police also seized an SUV, two bikes, a sharp weapon and Rs 1000 cash from their possession, he added.
At least seven dacoity cases were pending against the accused persons, Mohanty said.
“A case has been registered under Sec 395 of IPC against the accused persons at Rajkanika police station and they will be forwarded to the court later in the day. Further investigation is underway,” Mohanty said.
