“Two wild elephants entered into the Nandankanan Zoological Park late last night. Hence, the zoo has been closed today for the safety of visitors. It will be opened after the wild elephants are driven away from the area,” said Nandankanan ACF, Sarat Chandra Behera.
Officials of Nandankanan and Chandaka Wildlife Division have been deployed to drive the elephants away from the zoo area, he added.
The State Botanical Garden will however remain open to the public, the official further said.
The zoo is home to about 1660 individual animals representing 166 species, including 67 species of mammals, 81 species of birds, and 18 species of reptiles.
