Angul, Feb 22: A wild tusker (male elephant), who was rescued with injuries, in the Chhendipada forest range in Angul, is still under treatment and will be released into the jungle once it recovers fully, said DFO Bibek Kumar.
According to the DFO, the injured tusker was found roaming for five days in the jungle.
"The wild animal was successfully tranquilized by the forest officials and under our team's observation, " said the DFO.
"The elephant had the mark of gunshot at six places on his head. Medical teams from Nandankanan, Satakoshia, Dhenkanal, and Angul have been deployed for the elephant's treatment," added the DFO.
A radio collar has been pub to the elephant's body. The elephant's movement will be monitored even after it is released into the forest, said the DFO.
