Sambalpur, June 17: A tusker (male elephant) reportedly died after coming in contact with a live electric wire at Basantiapada under the Sambalpur Sadar forest range area late on Sunday night.

According to the information, the tusker entered the Basantiapada village when villagers were fast asleep last night. The jumbo came in contact with live wire when it broke a house by its trunk. The elephant was electrocuted on the spot.

On being informed, Sadar range forest officials visited the village and recovered the body.

Meanwhile, villagers resented that wild elephants had been troubling them by destroying their houses and eating paddy and other crops for many days.
