Bhubaneswar, June 20: MLA From Ranpur, Surama Padhi, was Thursday unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly. A special session of the Assembly was convened for the purpose.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi placed a proposal for the unanimous selection of Surama Padhy as the Speaker. Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo seconded the proposal. Then Pro-TM Speaker declared Padhy as the Speaker of the House.
“I declare that Smt Surama Padhy is duly chosen as the Speaker of the House,” Pro-Tem Speaker Swain announced and congratulated Padhy.
CM Majhi, Deputy CMs Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Ministers, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik and Members of all parties accompanied Padhy to the Speaker's Seat. They all congratulated Padhy on being elected as Speaker.
Following her appointment, Speaker Padhy was given a guard of honour outside the House.
