Bhubaneswar, Sept 7: A unit of Special Tiger Protection Force (STPF) has been deployed to safeguard the Satkosia Tiger Reserve.

The STPF has been deployed as per the mandate of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) to safeguard the tigers.

The STPF has arrived in Satkosia Tiger Reserve Saturday to safeguard the tigers from the hunters and wildlife smugglers.

The forest department has planned to relaunch to tiger project in Satkosia. The project had been launched earlier once, but it failed for some reasons.

According to reports, it is planned to bring 15 tigers from Maharashtra's Tadoba National Park (forest) to Satkosia Tiger Reserve in phases over five years.

A tiger -- Mahavir -- died after falling into a trap (net) set by a hunter. Another tiger -- Sundari -- returned to Madhya Pradesh after living like a prisoner to a hunter/smuggler.
