Mayurbhanj, Dec 16: With night temperature dipping to the lowest 1 Degree Celsius, snowfall has occurred at Uppar-Barahakamuda in the Similipal National Park in Mayurbhanj district.
According to the weather office sources, night temperature has dipped at different places in the State. Chilly weather gripped the entire State. Due to the cold wave, elderly people and children opted to remain indoors in the morning hours.
Daringbadi in Kandhamal district, known as Odisha's Kashmir, recorded 7.5 Degree Celsius. Cold waves persisted in Daringibadi and nearby areas in the district.
Mercury dipped severely at different places in the Similipal area. Chahala recorded 3 Degrees Celsius, Nahana 4 Degrees, Barehipani 5 Degrees, and Gudagudia 6 Degrees Celsius. A dip in temperature has been marked in Similipal for the last four days.
Local residents are seen burning bonfires and warming themselves in the morning hours.
"A low layer of snow has been covering the Similipal surface for the last three days. With the advent of the winter, we feel the blessings of nature. It makes us happy," said a local resident.
