Sambalpur, Oct 15: Excise officials on Tuesday seized huge quantity of silver jewellery from a car in Odisha’s Sambalpur district during checking of vehicles for suspected ganja smuggling in the region, officials said.

As per reports, the Excise sleuths intercepted a car near Rengali on the Sambalpur-Jharsuguda Biju Expressway on suspicion of smuggling of ganja in the vehicle.

During the search, the officials recovered a huge quantity of silver ornaments worth lakhs of rupees from a secret chamber of the vehicle.

As the occupants of the car couldn’t show the required documents for carrying the jewellery, the officials seized the ornaments and detained three persons in this connection.

Later, CT-GST enforcement officials were informed about the seizure of silver ornaments.

“The car was heading to Ranchi from Maharashtra; further investigation is in progress,” a senior official said.
