Bhubaneswar, July 23: The Odisha assembly witnessed a ruckus by the opposition parties on the second day of the opening session of the 17th Odisha Legislative Assembly on Tuesday over the alleged assault of a government official at Raj Bhavan in Puri on July 7 and inaction by the police.
The opposition BJD and the Congress intensified their protest in the House, demanding immediate action against the accused.
Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the proceeding till 11.30 AM, as members of the opposition trooped into the well of the House and shouted slogans against the State government.
Governor Raghubar Das’ son Lalit Kumar allegedly assaulted an assistant section officer (ASO) at Raj Bhavan in Puri on July 7, prompting strong demands for accountability from the opposition BJD and Congress.
Yesterday, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan assured the people of the state that swift action would be taken against those involved in the alleged assault of the government official.
The Minister said that the Governor's secretariat had instructed the Puri Collector to conduct a comprehensive investigation and submit a report within 15 days, emphasising that subsequent actions would be based on this inquiry.
