Rourkela, Feb 29: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Thursday apprehended Abhiram Sahu, a Senior Assistant at ESI Dispensary in Rourkela, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a for processing his medical reimbursement claim under the ESI Scheme.
As per reports, the complainant had been repeatedly requesting the Senior Assistant of ESI to process his medical claim for a long time.
The accused Sahu demanded the complainant for a bribe of Rs 10,000 to get his work done. However, the complainant approached the Vigilance authority in this regard and sought action against the accused official.
Accordingly, the Vigilance officials laid a trap and caught Sahu while he was accepting the bribe amount. The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from the possession of the accused official.
Following the trap, the Vigilance officials launched simultaneous searches at two locations associated with Sahu from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
A case has been registered in this connection at the Rourkela Vigilance police station under Section 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigation into the case is underway, officials said.
