Cuttack, Mar 18: In a major relief to Congress MLA Mohammad Mouquim, the Supreme Court today stayed the Orissa High Court's order that announced his election to the Cuttack Barabati Assembly void.

Moukim had challenged the High Court order in the Supreme Court.   With the Supreme Court staying the Orissa High Court order, the Legislator post of Mouquim stands valid now.

According to information, soon after the election in 2019, Moquim's nearest rival BJD's Debashish Samantray filed a petition at the Orissa High Court alleging that he had not revealed all criminal cases against him in the affidavit filed at the Election Commission.

Adjudicating the petition following hearings, the High Court recently termed the Moquim's election as void. Following this, Mouquim knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court.
