Bhubaneswar, Oct 4: The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has summoned the Rayagada District Collector and the SP to depose before it in connection with the Laxmi Majhi murder case of Chandraspur Maa Ghar on the next hearing date on October 17.
The commission issued the order on a complaint filed by BJP leader Kaliram Majhi. Laxmi Majhi was reportedly murdered in December 2023.
Notably, the dead body of Laxmi Majhi, a physically handicapped, was recovered from the Rayagada Hospital premises in December. Miscreants had murdered her and burnt her body. Laxmi Majhi was working Maa Ghar. Voluntary Oranisation Alisa's Manager Narasingha Mohapatra was suspected of having a role in Laxmi Majhi's 'killing".
Though approached, local MLA and then Law Minister Jagannath Saraka didn't help the bereaved family. He avoided the family saying Crime Branch and Police were investigating the matter.
On the other hand, bereaved family members approached the new Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, seeking justice for him.
