Bhubaneswar, Sep 27: In a major breakthrough, the Commissionerate Police on Friday busted a notorious inter-state chain-snatching gang, namely ‘Surat gang’, in Bhubaneswar and arrested four members of the gang.
The gang committed thefts on state and national highways, as well as on main roads of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in last four months, informed Twin City Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda.
The arrested criminals have been identified as Subhas Pradhan, Jitu Behera (Both from Odisha), Amit Sadanke of Maharashtra and a juvenile.
Police also seized eight gold chains, two motorcycles, as many cell phones and sharp weapons from their possession.
According to the Commissionerate Police, Subhas Pradhan is the kingpin of the Surat gang. Subhas, along with his close associate Amit Sadanke, was operating the gang.
Earlier, Subhas was involved in a murder case in Surat, Gujarat. Presently, he is also wanted by Surat Police in an extortion case. In 2018, he returned to Odisha and continued his criminal activities. He was also injured in police encounter at Chandanpur in Puri district in the same year, police said.
At least nine criminal cases are pending against Subhas and the gang members, police added.
