Over 24,000 Ganja Plants Destroyed In Koraput

Koraput, Nov 10: A joint team of Odisha Police and Excise officials destroyed more than 24,000 ganja plants planted on around 20 acres of forest land in Machkund area in Odisha’s Koraput district on Saturday.

After getting information about illegal ganja plantation, a joint team from Nandapur Excise police station and Machkund police station along with a magistrate, revenue officials, and staff of the forest department reached the spot and cut down more than 24,000 cannabis plants planted on around 20 acres of forest land near Enungu, Dahanaput and Bangiriput villages in Machkund area.

Later, the plants were burnt in the presence of Magistrate In-charge Kamlesh Mahant and other officials.

No arrest has been made so far in this connection, a senior police officer said.

 “If police get any credible information about the person involved in the illegal cultivation of cannabis, then strong action will be taken against him,” he added.
