Jagatsinghpur, July 1: Gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs of rupees were reportedly stolen from the Maa Kanak Durga Temple on the outskirts of Jagatsinghpur town late on Sunday night.

The stealing of valuables came to the fore after the priest visited the temple for puja early this morning. The priest found the two iron gates on the front side of the temple were broken. He then found ornament boxes lying scattered and the idol free from ornaments.

He soon intimated the matter to the temple officials, who then complained to the Jagatsinghpur Twon police.

Two silver crowns, other silver ornaments weighing around 25 kg, and two tolas of gold ornaments were found missing.

'We have registered a loot case and started an investigation," said police.
