Opposition BJD, Congress Stage Walkout From Odisha Assembly During Governor's Address

Bhubaneswar, July 22: The first session of the 17th Odisha Assembly started on Monday on a stormy note with Opposition Biju Janata Dal(BJD) and Congress members staging a walkout as soon as Governor Raghubar Das started addressing the House.

The BJD members led by LoP Naveen Patnaik raised slogans over the alleged "assault" on an assistant section officer (ASO) at the Raj Bhavan in Puri and the law and order situation in the State.

The Congress members also followed suit and walked out of the House.

Notably, the election for the Deputy Speaker post is scheduled to be held on July 24 while the BJP government will present its first budget for the 2024-25 financial year in the assembly on July 25.

The session will continue till September 13.
