New Delhi, Nov 18: In a surprising turn of events, OpenAI has ousted its co-founder and CEO, Sam Altman, citing a lack of consistent candor with the board of directors. The board expressed a loss of confidence in Altman's leadership abilities. This decision follows Altman's pivotal role in propelling ChatGPT to global fame within the past year, making him a prominent figure in the AI community.

Mira Murati, OpenAI's Chief Technology Officer, will step in as interim CEO while the company searches for a permanent replacement. Greg Brockman, another co-founder and the board's chairman, will step down from his role but remain at the company as its president. However, in a surprising move, Brockman later announced his resignation via X (formerly Twitter).

OpenAI declined to provide details on Altman's alleged lack of candor, stating that it hindered the board's ability to fulfill its responsibilities. Altman, who helped establish OpenAI as a nonprofit research lab in 2015, expressed appreciation for his time at the company but did not elaborate on his future plans.

The sudden leadership change raises questions about the future of OpenAI, a key player in the AI industry. Microsoft, a significant business partner, reassured its commitment to OpenAI despite the transition. Altman's departure leaves the company at a crucial juncture, grappling with real-world challenges and limitations amid the ongoing AI boom. The shift in leadership may impact OpenAI's trajectory as it continues to navigate regulatory expectations and societal concerns surrounding AI technology.
