Odisha: VSSUT Bars Students From Wearing Western Attire During Cultural Fest

Sambalpur, Mar 21: The Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT), Burla in Odisha on Thursday instructed students to wear traditional attire during the Techno-Cultural Fest 2024 that kicks-off tomorrow.

A notice, issued by the registrar of the State-run university, prohibits students from wearing western outfits or short dresses within the university campus during the festival days.

“All the students of VSSUT are instructed to wear Indian traditional/authentic dresses during the Techno-Cultural Fest-2024. Western/vulgar/short dresses are strictly forbidden inside the university campus during the festival days,” the notice said.

Students found violating the dress code will be promptly directed to leave the campus and appropriate action will be taken by the university, it added.

Speaking to Argus News, VSSUT Vice Chancellor, Dr Bansidhar Majhi said, " Every year, we celebrate the Techno-Cultural Festival in the university. As it is a cultural festival, we asked students to wear traditional attire to promote the traditional culture and values of our country. Our New Education Policy also says that in addition to the quality education we should adopt our rich culture to add values in academic success."
