Bhubaneswar, Apr 20: Odisha witnessed severe heatwave conditions on Saturday as day temperature crossed 45 degree Celsious mark in isolated pockets in the State.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Boudh and Baripada recorded a maximum day temperature of 45.2 degree Celsius each today, becoming the hottest places in the state.
Other places registering maximum temperature at or above 43 degree Celsius include Jharsuguda at 43.2 degree Celsius, Angul, Nayagarh and Keonjhar each at 43.5 degree Celsius and Balangir at 43.6 degree Celsius.
According to sources, normal life was affected in Boudh and Baripada amid rising mercury. While roads in both cities bore a near-deserted look during peak hours, those people who came out of necessity were seen taking preventive measures like putting on headgear and carrying water bottles.
The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre forecast that heat wave conditions will prevail in Odisha till April 22.
The weather department issued orange and yellow warnings of heat wave conditions for several districts in the state during the next three days.
