Odisha Records Highest Lightning Deaths in Last 5 Years

Bhubaneswar, Sept 5: Odisha has recorded highest number of lightning deaths in the last five years, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari told the Odisha Assembly Thursday.

In the last five years, 1103 people have died due to lightning in Odisha. Sundergarh, Keonjhar and Balasore have the highest number of lightning deaths, informed Pujari.

As per reports, Odisha is witnessing more lightning strike deaths as it is a mineral-rich State. And the minerals are good conductors of electricity. No technology has been developed so far to find out where lightning strikes will take place.

However, Palm trees are being planted to prevent lightning strikes. Rs 7 crore have been given to the forest department to plant palm trees across the state, informed Pujari.
