Bhubaneswar, Nov 4: The total cost of properties damaged by severe Cyclone Dana was pegged at Rs 600 crore by the Odisha government.
District Collectors of Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore and other affected districts assessed properties damaged by the Cyclone 'Dana' that hit the Odisha coast at 12.05 am on October 25, in their respective districts. Assimilating assessments, the State government pegged the total loss of properties at Rs 600 crore.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujar said a total of 166 blocks in 14 districts faced the wrath of Cyclone Dana. Out of 166 blocks, 131 were affected severely.
As many as 41,04,357 people belonging to 11,637 villages were affected. Out of a total of 16,417 houses were damaged, 27 kachha houses destroyed fully and 14, 680 damaged partially, said the Minister.
About 4,000 hens and 71 pet animals were killed due to the cyclone. The Energy Department suffered heavy losses. The final damage assessment report will be prepared by Monday evening and the same will be sent to the Union Government tomorrow, he waid.
According to the assessment made by Balasore district Collector, as many as 3,419 houses were damaged in the district, out of which 18 houses were completely damaged. While 40 pucca houses have been damaged, 2,549 houses have been partially damaged. Balasore Additional District Magistrate Sudhakar Nayak said 3,767 hectares of agricultural land were damaged due to flash floods caused by the cyclone. Similarly 146 horticultural crops were destroyed and 2,028 poultry birds killed.
