Odisha Govt To Take Action Against 196 Doctors Who Are On Long Leave

Bhubaneswar, Dec 2: Health Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling on Monday told the Odisha Assembly that the State government has decided to take action against doctors who have remained on unauthorized leave for a long. 

In response to a question from BJP MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, the Health Minister informed the Assembly that as many as 196 doctors have remained on leave citing various grounds. The State government would take action against these doctors as per law. 

To a related question asked by BJD MLA Prasant Behera, the Minister said as many as 5,015 doctor posts, including 1,114 Specialists, are currently vacant in the State. 375 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the State have these vacancies. 

The highest of 450 doctor posts are lying vacant in Ganjam, followed by 309 in Mayurbhanj, 281 in Cuttack. Similarly, the highest of 87 Special Posts are vacant each in Mayurbhanj and Ganjam, followed by 43 in Cuttack and 29 in Khordha district.
