Bhubaneswar, Nov 8: With accidents caused by 'Mo Bus' occuring often in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the State government has carved out guidelines to check such accidents.
A 'speed governance' device will be fixed in each 'Mo Bus' and only licensed drivers will drive the vehicles. The speed of the "Mo Bus' will not be more than 40 km per hour within the city area and 50 km outside the cities.
Drunken driving will not be allowed. Thus each driver will be checked before embarking and after getting off the bus to know if he is drunk. This will be implemented very soon, said Commerce and Transport Minister Krushna Chandra Patra.
Notably, the 'Mo Bus' service is managed by the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), a government-supported body. The Mu Buses are often seen running at high speed and causing accidents.
What is disturbing is the CRUT has not paid compensation to any accident victims so far. CRUT officials don't even visit the victims.
While people depend on the Mo Bus service for an affordable city ride, no eye-catching steps have been taken to check harassment within the bus and accidents so far. The new government guidelines, if implemented, will greatly check accidents, opined many.
