Bhubaneswar, Dec 18: The Enforcement Directorate on Wednesday conducted raids at the residence and office of Khirod Mallik, the deceased brother of senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) MLA Pramila Mallik, in connection with a Rs 231 crore loan fraud case.

According to the sources, the raids are underway at three locations associated with late Khirod Mallik.

According to sources, Khirod, prior to his recent death, secured term loans totalling Rs 231 crore from various nationalised banks across Odisha and other states through his microfinance institution, Bharat Integrated Social Welfare Agency (BISWA).

The loans were obtained for the purpose of lending to self-help groups (SHGs). However, the loan amount was not used for the desired purpose and was mis-utilised by furnishing the fabricated utilisation certificates, sources said.

A response from BJD MLA Pramila Mallik could not be obtained immediately.

Malik is a seven-time MLA and chief whip of Opposition BJD in the Odisha assembly. She represents the Binjharpur assembly seat in Jajpur district.
