Odisha CM, LoP Congratulate Veteran Actor Mithun Chakraborty For Dadasaheb Phalke Honour

Bhubaneswar, Sep 30: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik on Monday congratulated veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty for being conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

In a social media post, CM Majhi expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the legendary actor on receiving the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

“Heartfelt congratulations to the legendary actor Shri Mithun Chakraborty on receiving the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award,” the Chief Minister said on X.

“This honor is a well-deserved tribute to your remarkable five-decade journey in Indian cinema and your incredible range of versatile performances that have entertained audiences in India and captivated fans worldwide,” he added.  

Former Chief Minister and LoP, Naveen Patnaik also expressed his joy over Chakraborty being honoured with the award. He took the social media to congratulate the versatile actor.

“Congratulate versatile actor #MithunChakraborty on being selected to receive the prestigious #DadasahebPhalke Award. He has essayed many memorable roles on screen including in Odia cinema,” Patnaik wrote on X.

Earlier in the day, Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the award for Chakraborty as an honour to his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema.

The prestigious award will be presented to Chakraborty at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony on October 8, 2024.

Mithun Chakraborty, affectionately known as 'Mithun Da' by his fans, has solidified his status as a celebrated figure in Indian cinema. His career began in 1976 with the film 'Mrigayaa', where his portrayal of a Santhal rebel earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor.

He subsequently won two more National Film Awards for his performances in 'Tahader Katha' (1992) and 'Swami Vivekananda' (1998). Recently, he was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, adding to his accolades.

Beyond his impressive acting career, Mithun has made a significant impact in the music industry with iconic dance numbers like "I Am a Disco Dancer," "Jimmy Jimmy," and "Super Dancer," which continue to resonate with fans across generations.

Most recently, Chakraborty starred in Vivek Agnihotri's critically acclaimed film 'The Kashmir Files'.
