Bhubaneswar, Dec 5: Prathamastami is celebrated throughout Odisha on the Astami tithi (8th day after Kartika Purnima) in the month of Margasira.
On this auspicious occasion, the maternal uncle sends a bhara, comprising various food items and gift for their eldest niece/nephew.
The Prathamastami bhara includes items such as new clothes, coconut, jaggery, newly harvested rice, black gram, turmeric leaves, and more.
The focal culinary delight of Prathamastami is the 'Enduri Pitha.'
Enduri Pitha is a special dish for Prathamastami. This dish is prepared using turmeric leaves, and it has a unique feature. Turmeric leaves are used exclusively for Enduri Pitha on Prathamastami and not in any other festival.
Ingredients like Chena, Nadaipura, Guda, Uapakhia rice, turmeric leaves, are used to prepare Enduri Pitha. The pitha is prepared using a traditional athara handi (earthen pot).
