Bhubaneswar, June 4: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday registered a historic win in Odisha Assembly elections, ousting the 24-year-old Biju Janata Dal (BJD) government.
According to the Election Commission of India, the saffron party won 78 seats out of 147 seats in the State Assembly, while Naveen Patnaik-led BJD has been reduced to only 51 seats.
Congress managed to win in 14 seats and Communist Party of India (Marxist) - CPI(M) secured one seat. The remaining three seats were obtained by Independent candidates.
