Odisha: 2 Killed, Property Worth Lakhs Destroyed In Lightning Strike

Bhubaneswar, May 11: At least two people were killed after being struck by lightning at different places in Odisha on  Saturday evening. 

According to reports, a woman died after being hit by lightning in the Baliapal area in the Balasore district. The deceased woman was identified as Binati Punti of Sahuchhak under Singla police station limits. She was sitting on her house verandah when lightning struck her. 

An elderly man was killed in the Begunia area in Khordha district. The deceased has been identified as Purna Chandra Behera of Kanpur village. He was collecting mangoes when lightning struck him.  

The reports also stated that three people sustained critical injuries in the lightning attack in Balaeswar district. They are undergoing treatment in the District Headquarters Hospital, Balasore.  

Several houses were destroyed in Sagada Sahi under the Bhogarai block due to the nor'ester. At least five houses were damaged in the village. Electricity supply was disrupted as electric poles were uprooted.

Properties worth lakhs of rupees were destroyed as houses were burnt in fire caused by lightning in a village in the Balasore Sadar block area.  When lightning struck the village, villagers had gone to work in the agriculture field.
