Rourkela, Nov 29: NIT Rourkela commenced a Teachers' Training Programme for 150 faculty affiliated with the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha. This comprehensive training will be conducted in three phases, accommodating 50 participants in each phase spanning 5 days each, and will focus on three subjects: Biology (Life Science) from November 26 to November 30, 2024, Chemistry from December 2 to December 6, 2024, and Physics from December 9 to December 13, 2024, officials said on Friday.
The training programme is organised by the Sponsored Research, Industrial Consultancy and Continuing Education (SRICCE) at NIT Rourkela. Prof. Shantanu Kumar Behera (Associate Dean of SRICCE) is the convenor, while Prof. Madhurima Jana, also an Associate Dean at SRICCE, is the co-convenor of the programme.
The inauguration ceremony for this Training Programme took place on November 26, 2024, featuring the esteemed presence of the Chief Guest, Subhashree Nanda, Additional Secretary of School and Mass Education, Government of Odisha, and Chairperson of CHSE. The event was graced by notable dignitaries including Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, Director of NIT Rourkela, and Prof. S. K. Pratihar, Dean of SRICCE, along with other faculty members. Additionally, Dr. Mahendra Prasad Behera, Deputy Secretary of CHSE, attended the ceremony.
During his address at the event, Prof. S. K. Pratihar emphasized the importance of inquiry-based learning and collaboration, stating that "Our training will focus on integrating technology andgot research into teaching to encourage curiosity and promote project-based learning, making science accessible and engaging for students." He urged participants to leave equipped with the tools necessary to create dynamic learning environments that inspire innovative thinking.
In his remarks, Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao noted his commendation for the Government of Odisha's recognition of the need for teacher training: "Educators carry an unparalleled responsibility to nurture the intellectual and personal growth of their students. Addressing the programme, Nanda said: “This training programme is a collaborative effort between NIT Rourkela and CHSE Odisha. It is designed to enhance teaching methods and deeper understanding of subjects. It is essential for educators to guide students in exploring diverse career opportunities while incorporating modern technologies into teaching practices. Aligned with the National Education Policy, this course aims to provide the tools and skills needed to create transformative and impactful learning experiences. Each session provides a unique opportunity to learn, adapt, and enrich the educational journey of students.”
The programme coordinator for the Biology (Life Science) training is Prof. Bismita Nayak, Head of the Department of Life Sciences at NIT Rourkela. Prof. Garudadhwaj Hota (Head of the Department of Chemistry, NITR) is the coordinator of the chemistry training programme and Prof. Jyoti Prakash Kar (Head of the Department of Physics, NITR) is the coordinator of the physics training programme.
This training will also provide opportunities for teachers to visit laboratories and interact with students while receiving instruction on various topics. This initiative reflects a commitment to enhancing educational standards in Odisha through professional development for teachers in critical scientific disciplines.
