Rourkela, Sep 14: The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela celebrated Hindi Diwas on Saturday, dedicating the day to the promotion and celebration of the Hindi language.

On this occasion, a street play (Nukkad Natak) was organized, followed by a poetry session (Kavi Sammelan) to honour Hindi literature and art. The event, hosted by the institute’s Hindi Cell, featured prominent Hindi poets.

The program began with a street play performed by students from the Ritvik Club in the BB Auditorium courtyard. The play's theme was about overcoming failures and moving forward in life. After the play, the poetry session began inside the BB Auditorium, with renowned poet and writer Dr. Sanjay Pankaj as the chief guest.

Ravi Shankar Singh, Secretary of the institute’s Rajbhasha Implementation Committee, welcomed all the attendees and guests, marking the start of the event. Dr. Pankaj, a recipient of multiple prestigious awards, extended his best wishes on Hindi Diwas, saying, "Hindi is the language of India; let it thrive, incorporate it into our culture, and embrace it with pride. There is a need to work with dedication, honesty, and commitment toward the development of the Hindi language. Today, Hindi is taught in numerous universities worldwide. We celebrate World Hindi Day because people across the globe are eager to learn about the language, culture, and literature associated with it. I hope everyone dedicates themselves to their mother tongue and enjoys its rich essence."

The institute’s Director, Prof. K. Umamaheshwar Rao, addressed the audience, saying, "Language brings unity in diversity. Learning Hindi is easier due to its scientific nature, where what we speak is also what we write and read. I thank all the poets for coming here, and I wish everyone a happy Hindi Diwas."

NIT Rourkela’s Registrar, Prof. Rohan Dhiman, also addressed the gathering, praising the Indian government's efforts toward the development of Indian languages. He appreciated the Hindi Cell at NIT Rourkela for organizing various events to promote Hindi and congratulated the team for successfully managing all Hindi fortnight (Pakhwada) events.

After the inauguration, the poetry session began, where renowned poets mesmerized the audience with their recitations. Dr. Krishna Kumar Prajapati, Dr. Sanjay Pankaj, Mrs. Usha Agarwal, Mr. Ajay Prajapati, Dr. Madhusudan Saha, and Mrs. Shalu Chaudhary filled their compositions with humor, satire, love, and other emotions, earning applause from the audience. Student poets from the Kalam Club, including Md. Saif, Chinmay Srivastava, Vishnukant Mishra, Anuj Shukla, and Pravendra Anuragi, also presented their poems and shayari.

The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to the winners of competitions held during the Hindi Pakhwada.

Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on September 14 across schools, colleges, and various institutions in India. The day marks the adoption of Hindi as the official language of India, a decision made by the Constituent Assembly on September 14, 1949.
